The most obvious and effective method for having a single install routine for the Admin Component and Editor Plugin occured to me earlier today, and I'm quite puzzled as to why I hadn't thought of it sooner (espeially before the 1.5 release). Probably because I dind't know how to do it at the time, or I was to afraid to break with the status quo...
This solution entails moving the guts of the Editor Plugin into the component (thats all the plugins, the TinyMCE stuff, the icons and javascript, css etc.) and using the plugis remaining two files (thats jce.php and jce.xml) to handle the loading of the editor when its supposed to.
With this method the Admin Component will install itself as it does now, copy those two plugin files into their correct places and insert the necessary database entry for the plugin. Easy.
Now I just have to figure out how to shave about 100kb off the total size of the new component package...

One of the cool things about the Flash Uploader in JCE 1.5.0 is the ability to set file filters for the browe dialog. This had always been an option, but was never implemented. The 1.5.0 Stable release will see this included, here's an example for the Media Manager (the names are translatable too!):

Working on the File Manager for the 1.5.0 Stable release has led to a few developments that many users might find quite useful. Because of the what the File Manager inserts in the the editor, essentially an anchor wrapped around an img and/or span elements, it is sometimes difficult to properly select the anchor element to edit it. I have settled on a method where a single click on the element selects the entire anchor, but this then prevents the user from being able to edit the text and size/date. The solution was to make these options editable in the File Manager dialog, see below.
