The core JCE system consists of an Editor Mambot or Editor Plugin in the case of JCE 1.5.x, and an Administration Component. Both are required to be installed.
It is very important that the versions of the mambot/plugin and component installed are the same. New versions are usually released concurrently, and are not compatible with older versions, unless otherwise stated. Please check the download details as to the appropriate versions required when downloading.
Installing the Component
Installing the Editor Mambot / Plugin
In Joomla! 1.5.x Mambots are now called Plugins. Please don't get confused with JCE Plugins, which are not the same as Joomla! Plugins.
Joomla! 1.0.1x |
The Editor Mambot is installed using the Joomla! installer, accessed via the Joomla! Administration, using the menu links Installers->Mambots. |
| Joomla! 1.5.x |
|
The Editor Plugin is installed using the Joomla! installer, accessed via the Joomla! Administration, using the menu links Extensions->Install/Uninstall
Once the mambot/plugin has been installed, various parameters can be configured by going to Components->JCE Admin->JCE Configuration.
It may be necessary on some systems to perform a manual installation of the JCE Editor Mambot/Plugin if the initial installation fails with a timeout error. Follow these tutorials for each JCE version:

Installing JCE Plugins
JCE contains its own installer to install JCE Plugins. This is very similar to the Joomla! installer, and has the same features.
Joomla! 1.0.1x |
|
The installer is accessed via the JCE Administration menu, Components->JCE Admin->JCE Plugins, and then by clicking the Install button.

| Joomla! 1.5.x |
|
Like Joomla! 1.5.x, JCE 1.5.x has a unified installer, to install JCE Plugins, Languages and Plugin Extensions. Access this through Components->JCE Administration->Install

Once a plugin has been installed, it's parameters can be edited by clicking on its name in the JCE Plugins list. See the Administration articles for more information on managing JCE plugins.
