Joomla! Compatatbility
Current versions of JCE 1.1.x are only for use with Joomla! 1.0.x, preferably the latest version.
Current versions of JCE 1.5.x are only for use with Joomla! 1.5.x, preferably the latest version.
Browsers
All modern browsers should work relatively well although some do have their quirks, and some have additional helpful features.
- Firefox (2 - 3.5) : The latest version is recommended. This browser works very well in all aspects of the editor and includes additional inline table controls
- Internet Explorer (6 - 8) : IE8 is the best version of this browser, with IE7 being next and IE6 being the least stable although useable.
- Safari (3 - 4) : The latest version of this browser (4) works very well, although all version of Safari will include additional HTML (converting stylesheet data into inline styles) when copying and pasting from other sources.
- Chrome : Useable although sometimes quirky. Exhibits the same paste issue as Safari.
- Opera : Overall seems stable.
The latest versions of Firefox and IE are recommended for all editing tasks with Safari 4 recommended as a decent alternative.
Server-side / hosting requirements
JCE has the same server-side requirements as Joomla! and functions best with safe-mode off.
The Image Manager Extended requires the GD2 php library.
The Spellchecker requires libcurl and may require mbstring if the Google Spellcheck option is used, otherwise PSpell or ASpell.
Other requirements
An understanding of the Joomla! administrative functions is required, especially the installtion and general use of Mambots and Components.
To use the popup features of the Image Manager Extended and Advanced Link Extended, the JCE Utilities Mambot is recommended.
