An update of the JCE Editor Mambot can be done in 2 ways, either by re-installing it or by manually updating the files via ftp.
Re-installing JCE
The database entries detailing what plugins are installed and the various plugin /command configuration options, are handled by the JCE Admin Component, so it is possible to do a clean re-install of the JCE Editor Mambot when a new version is released (unless release notes indicate otherwise). To do so, follow these steps:
1) Uninstall all installed plugins using the JCE Plugin Installer. JCE Admin -> JCE Plugins -> Install
This is very important as even though uninstalling the JCE Editor Mambot removes all their files, information about each plugin is still stored in the database, and re-installing the plugin without uninstalling if first will cause and error. 2) Uninstall the JCE Editor Mambot using the Joomla! Mambot installer. Installers -> Mambots
3) Re-install the JCE Editor Mambot using the Joomla! Mambot Installer. Installers -> Mambots
4) Re-install plugins using the JCE Plugin Installer. JCE Admin -> JCE Plugins -> Install
Manually Updating JCE
In many update instances, the JCE Editor Mambot can be updated manually by copying the new files over exisiting ones via ftp.
To do this:
1) Unzip the JCE Editor Mambot package to a location on your local hard drive, making sure all the folders are preserved.
2) Log into your server using ftp.
3) Go to the Joomla! mambots/editors directory.
4) Copy all the files in the unzipped package into this directory, overwriting all existing files and folders.
It is not necessary when doing a manual update to uninstall any plugins.
In both instances it is adviseable to clear your browser cached and refresh the editor after it loads the first time after the update. This will remove any cached javascript, css and images files that may have been changed in the update and load the new ones.
