Installing JCE 1.5 for Joomla! 1.5
There are 3 methods for installing JCE
Method 1 : Package Install (recommended)
- Download the latest Installation Package for Joomla! 1.5 - Download
- Install the package using the Joomla! Extensions Installer. Do notunzip the package.

- Set JCE as the default Joomla! WYSIWYG editor
If a Package Install fails, which may occur on some sites due to conservative server settings, try Method 2 : 2-Step Install or Method 3 : Manual Install
Method 2 : 2-Step Install
- Download and install the Administration Component using the Joomla! Extensions Installer. Do not unzip the package - Download

- Download and install the Editor Plugin using the Joomla! Extensions Installer. Do not unzip the package - Download

- Set JCE as the default Joomla! WYSIWYG editor
Method 3 : Manual Install
A manual installation should only be attempted if the previous 2 methods fail.
- Download and install the Administration Component using the Joomla! Extensions Installer. Do not unzip the package - Download

- Download the Editor Plugin - Download
- Extract all the files from the zip file to a location on your hard drive making sure you preserve all folder paths. You should be left with 3 files and a folder; jce.php, jce.xml, en-GB.plg_editors.ini and a folder called 'jce'.
- Using an ftp client, log into your site and transfer the files jce.php, jce.xml and the folder (including all its contents) to the plugins/editors directory located in your Joomla! site root directory.
- Transfer the en-GB.plg_editors.ini language file to administrator/language/e-GB directory located in your Joomla! site root directory.

- Log into the Administration section of your Joomla! site and click on the 'Components->JCE Administration' or 'Components->JCE Administration-> Control Panel' menu item.
- If the Editor Plugin is not properly installed but you have copied its files correctly as detailed above, you will see an error message "Editor Plugin files exist but Editor Plugin is not installed - [Install Editor Plugin]". Click on [Install Editor Plugin].

- After completing these steps, the JCE Editor Plugin will be installed.

- Set JCE as the default Joomla! WYSIWYG editor
After Installation - Set JCE as the default Joomla! WYSIWYG Editor
- Go to Site->Global Configuration.
- Select 'Editor - JCE' from the 'Default WYSIWYG Editor' select list.
- Click 'Save'
It may also be necessary to assign the editor as the default to each individual user
