Update: JCE 2.5.11 has been released to fix an error in the Remove Image EXIF data parameter value.

JCE 2.5.10 has been released. This update adds a minor change to the way uploaded files are validated, and adds an option to remove EXIF data from uploaded image files.

    Removing EXIF data

An option has been added in Editor Profiles -> Editor Parameters -> Filesystem to remove EXIF data from JPEG and PNG images on upload.

    Remove Exif

This option is disabled by default, but unless there is a specific reason to retain EXIF data, we recommend you enable this option, as it is useful for 2 reasons:

    Security

Removing the EXIF data from JPEG images removes any malicious code that could have been added by a user. Obviously this is not an issue if you know and trust your user!

    Anonymity

Did you know that the EXIF data in an image can contain information about where the image was taken? Smart phones and some cameras that contain GPS can tag images with the GPS location of where the picture was taken. Removing the EXIF data removes this information.
