JCE Pro 2.9.98 released

This update brings a set of practical improvements aimed at streamlining everyday workflows in the Image Manager, reducing configuration friction, and making editor behaviour more intuitive and predictable.

This release focuses on usability and clarity - both in the editor UI and in administrator configuration - while continuing to strengthen content handling behind the scenes.

New Features

Upload directly from the Image Manager Basic Dialog

The Image Manager Basic Dialog now includes an Upload button directly within the URL field when Allow Upload is enabled in the Image Manager parameters. This makes it quicker to add new images without switching dialogs, particularly useful for users who prefer the simpler Basic Dialog workflow.

Optional Classes list in Image Manager dialogs

You can now hide the Classes list in all Image Manager dialogs, including the Basic Dialog, by setting Show Classes List to No.

This is ideal for sites that don’t rely on CSS class selection for images and want a cleaner, less distracting interface for content editors.

Improved Behaviour & Configuration

Custom folder labels now replace “Home” where appropriate

When a File Directory Path contains only a single path item and a label is defined, that label now replaces the default “Home” entry in the folder tree.

This applies across the Image Manager, File Browser, and related dialogs, making directory structures clearer and more meaningful—especially on sites with a single media root.

Repeatable fields for prohibited elements and attributes

The following security-related options now use repeatable text fields instead of comma-separated lists:

  • Prohibited Elements

  • Prohibited Attributes

  • Prohibited Attribute Values

Each entry can now be defined individually, improving readability, reducing configuration errors, and making ongoing maintenance much easier. Existing comma-separated values continue to work, ensuring full backwards compatibility.

Stability & Compatibility

Alongside these changes, JCE Pro 2.9.98 includes a broad set of fixes and internal improvements, including better handling of pasted content from office applications, improved sanitisation behaviour with DOMPurify, updated third-party libraries, and enhanced compatibility with Joomla 6.

Please Note: JCE Pro is compatible with Joomla 3, 4, 5 and 6, and does not require the Backwards Compatibility plugin in Joomla 5 or Joomla 6.
