We do like the "Link" functionality a lot in JCE editor, and we customize it with our own JCE plugins to allow quick linking to custom components.
We wonder if you ever thought of creating a Joomla form field and/or custom field that uses the same mechanism to show the "Link" modal and allow a user to select the article/menu/etc.. to link to? Not for usage within the editor text, but as a form field. So the selected link will be used as the value for the input of a form field.
A bit similar to what you have done for the mediajce plugin.
That would allow us to use the linking functionality in Custom Fields and our own components where users need to select the content of the site to link to.
