I think this may have something to do with the Joomla Text Filter.

In the Joomla Global Configuration, in the Text Filters tab, if the Filter Type is set to No Filtering, then the content is saved correctly. If it is set to Default Forbidden List, then the content is corrupted on saving.

Can you confirm this?
