I've been pulling my hair out for a few hours now so I'm hoping for some help. Here's my issue:
I need the JCE File Browser to replace the Joomla Media Manager on the frontend so I can show files in addition to images. This works fine in the backend, but it doesn't work at all on the frontend. A modal window is opened but never loads JCE. No error is shown.
Here's what I've tried:
Not sure what else to do. I can't believe that I can't get the Joomla Media Manager to show PDF and video files. If anyone has a workaround, please let me know. Otherwise, I'm hoping to get JCE working.
Thanks,
Justin

Here's what I've tried:
- Granting permissions in JCE -> Control Panel -> Options -> Permissions
Enabled "JCE File Browser in Image Fields" in JCE -> Control Panel -> Options -> General Options.
Enabled File Browser at JCE -> Editor Profiles -> Features & Layout -> Additional Features (at the bottom of page): I ticked this checkbox. Unfortunately, it throws a 500 error on the frontend after I do this.
Switched Template to Protostar - same effect
Copying the markup from a field in the backend (where is works), and pasted it into the frontend. This results in a message that states I don't have access to this resource.

More info about my issue...
The File Browser opens in the frontend when I click the Image icon in the JCE Editor toolbar. That works fine. What I;m having trouble with is how to get the File Browser to open from a stand-alone link and attached to a text field input.
I've found this Link, which I thought might help. But it was focused on using the File Manager in the backend admin console. I need it in the frontend. I tried following the forum anyway, but couldn't get anything to work.
Any help appreciated!

The JCE File Browser should be available from any field using the "media" type, example from Joomla Article Manager:
<field
name="image_intro"
type="media"
label="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_INTRO_LABEL"
description="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_INTRO_DESC"
/>
You can also set a filter attribute, eg: images, media, html, files, for the file types to open, or a specific file type, eg: pdf
<field
name="image_intro"
type="media"
label="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_INTRO_LABEL"
description="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_INTRO_DESC"
filter="files"
/>

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your help! Here is the field definition from my itemform.xml
<field
name="teaser_image"
directory="/images/media/"
type="media"
label="Select/Upload a Teaser Image (optional)"
description="COM_ADVOCACY_FORM_DESC_ITEM_TEASER_IMAGE"
hint="COM_ADVOCACY_FORM_LBL_ITEM_TEASER_IMAGE"
filter="files"
/>
And here is where I output the field in the default template in the view:
<?php echo $this->form->renderField('teaser_image'); ?>
Unfortunately, I still get one of two scenarios:
1) With the checkbox for the File Browser (JCE -> Editor Profiles -> Features & Layout -> Additional Features (at the bottom of page) enabled, an empty modal window opens and a 500 err is shown in the console.
2) With that same checkbox unchecked, the media manager loads.
I've tried all combinations for directory ("images", "/images", "/images/media/", etc..), and I've tried removing directory all together.
Any more help will be appreciated.

Do you have access to the server error log so we can see what is causing the 500 error?

I have access to any logs we need. The error that Joomla reports in the local error file reads...
[15-Nov-2017 14:18:23 America/New_York] PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function render() on null in /home/modusvia/public_html/projects/hp/components/com_jce/editor/libraries/views/plugin/tmpl/browser.php on line 14
Does this help?

More info....
I created a secondary site, with a clean Joomla install. I installed JCE Pro 2.6.20, my custom component, and my template. Everything worked perfectly.
While doing side-by-side comparisons of each extension between the two sites, I noticed a difference in the JCE Pro 2.6.20 that I have installed in my primary site.I seem to be missing several plugins. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but the plugins don't show up in my primary site like they do in the secondary site.
I've attached an image that shows the plugins that are installed on the secondary site, but not the primary.
Any help appreciated.

If the original site was upgrade to JCE Pro from Core, the Pro buttons will not be in the editor toolbar.
You can add those plugins in Editor Profiles -> Features & Layout - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/support/faq/plugins/buttons-missing-from-the-editor-toolbar-after-update
