Hi Ryan,
Is there a Joomla! custom field plugin that uses the JCE File manager to select or upload a file other then an Image? The custom fields supports the media type but this is only for images. Or is there someone who created such plugin?
Regards

Set the field type as media, then set a filter attribute using either images,files,media or a list of specific file types, eg:
<field
name="image_fulltext"
type="media"
label="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_FULL_LABEL"
description="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_FULL_DESC"
filter="files"
/>
<field
name="image_fulltext"
type="media"
label="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_FULL_LABEL"
description="COM_CONTENT_FIELD_FULL_DESC"
filter="txt,pdf,html"
/>

Replace the "filter" attribute with "mediatype", eg:
<field
name="pdf"
type="media"
label="COM_COMPONENT_PDF_LABEL"
mediatype="files"
/>
Hello Ryan,
I have the same problem, but I do not understand where I have to copy the code you have attached to solve the problem. Can you tell me the path of the file to be edited? Thank you

The code above is intended for use in your own custom extension.
There is not yet a parameter for the JCE media field to specify a mediatype. This will be added in the next update.
You can download JCE Pro 2.6.28 Beta 2 for testing here - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/editor/item/jce-pro-dev
When creating a new Field, set the Type to JCE File Browser, then select the Media Type required - images, files or enter in a comma separated list of file extensions.

Hi Ryan, I was able to upload the pdf file but in the fornt-end it is published as an image, I report the steps I did:
1) Set PLUGIN "Fields - Media JCE" > files (001.jpg)
2) I have created a custom field > JCE File Browse Media (002.jpg)
3) In the article I uploaded the pdf in the custm field (003.jpg)
4) However, in the front end it is displayed as an image... (004.jpg)
5) I would like to get a simple link to the pdf, not an image (final-result.jpg)
Please try JCE Pro 2.6.29 Beta 4 - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/editor/item/jce-pro-dev
This will create links for non-image file types.
An Media Class field has also been added to set a list of classes for the element.

Thanks Ryan, with version 2.6.29 Beta 4 it works now!
One last question, how do I replace the button text? I would like to use the text "DOWNLOAD PDF" (for all buttons) not the file name.
Please try JCE Pro 2.6.29 RC1 - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/editor/category/development
This adds a Description text field for the Field. This can only be set globally for the field when it is created, not for each individual use of the field.

Is the option to select media type still available? I downloaded 2.6.33 and the latest beta version 2.7 but in both I don't have the option. I can select the JCE media manager as a custom field, but I am still only able to view and insert images.

Yes it is. The media type can only be selected when the field is created, not for each individual instance of the field.

Hi Ryan,
Thnx.
Connecting a pdf to a field works great now!
Uploading a pdf is still not possible, because of filetype is not supported. I use now a workaround by uploading my pdf's through the jce filemanager, but it would be convenient when the filemanager uploader would be included instead of the imagemanager uploader.
Thnx.

It is when creating a custom field, not when using the File Browser through the Intro Image and Full Image fields in the Images & Links tab.

In a custom component mediatype="files" is ignored.
Problem is within administrator/components/com_jce/helpers/browser.php
mediatype is empty in the options array therefor you get mediatype=images instead of mediatype=files in the data-url
around line 79 i added
// custom line Studio 16 Websolutions
$options['mediatype'] = 'files';
// end custom line
$data['url'] = 'index.php?option=com_jce&task=plugin.display';
Now it works, down side..... after upgarde it will probbaly be gone.
Therefor the devs should fix this bug.
