Hi Ryan,
I have a prospect from an unfinished Digital newspaper which needs to address some issues with their site before going live. One of the issues they are facing is that they have lots of images inside their images folders and this makes the JCE File Browser takes lots of time to load all the file titles and it slows down their process of addind images to their news articles.
Is there a way to "cache" or similar so that search within the folders is instant or at least really quick?
I have thought of 2 approaches:
1. Caching files in the folder and offering the user that cached list while refreshing the contents in the background
2. Offering the user a lazy load of the first 20 files and enabling AJAX search in the file browser.
do you think any of this will be possible? I think it's a problem the file browser takes so much time to load.

Using a file based cache of the folder contents is not really much faster than retrieving the folder contents from the server.

This is something that will be addressed in JCE 3. It has been quite an engineering task and so cannot be implemented in JCE 2.x
The best solution is to encourage use of the file List Size - set this to 100, and use pagination and search to find the files required.
You can set the List Size in Editor Profiles -> Editor Parameters -> Filesystem
Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean everybody isn't out to get you.
