is it possible to add the start and end publication dates of an article in a template, from the database and have them dynamically updated when changed?
Not with the editor.
You can set various publishing options for the article in the Options tab, such as Show Create Date, Show Modify Date, Show Publish Date, which are controlled in the Article Manager Options. The position of these is controlled by your template.

Hi Ryan,
Thank you for the reply.
I read that but can not figure out how to, for instance, add the value of the "publish to" & "publish from" in a template

You would need to do a template override - https://docs.joomla.org/Understanding_Output_Overrides

I'm aware of the template overrides
I was hoping there was something like that possible in te snippets / templates for the jce templatemanager.

Yes there are, but they are not stored in the database, and not related to the Joomla article dates.
Create a new Template (not snippet) and include the html code:
<span class="cdate"></span>
for the creation date and
<span class="mdate"></span>
for the modification date.
There is no end date.
