Each user group should be able to see and edit their own directory with subdirectories in the media folder. All other folders are invisible. To prevent the groups from seeing the folders when logging in to the backend, we have already denied admin access to media in the configuration.

This means that access in the backend is not possible or necessary, as users have access in the frontend. This is fine. To restrict media access in the frontend using the editor, we use JCE Editor Pro and have also created profiles for the groups (access only to one folder of the respective group). This works wonderfully. If I now log in to the frontend and go to a post that I am allowed to edit as a user with the appropriate rights, when I click on images, only the content in the JCE Editor of the shared folder (including subfolders) is visible.

Here I can select images or upload new images.

ATTENTION:

If I now go to Images and Links in the editor, all directories and files are displayed, essentially negating all the effort involved in setting permissions for individual folders in JCE. Isn't it possible to prevent this in Joomla? Instead of opening the Joomla media folder, can I link the Images and Links tab to the JCE Pro file browser so that, just like in the editor, when I open the image gallery, the JCE file browser is active and not the Joomla media browser view?

In Joomla, there is the option to use different paths between images and files in the media configuration, but that doesn't help if images and links then also display the files folder. Where can I specify which group, for example, has access only to the files folder? I can't find anything like that. This is about documents such as logs that cannot be viewed or used by users from various groups.

Yes, I created a separate profile for each group and only shared one folder for each group in the media folder. This all works perfectly. However, if you go to Files and Links in a post in the frontend, the Joomla image folder (not the JCE browser) opens, and you can see everything again.

The user Badminton can only edit posts under Badminton. He also only has access to the image folder images/badminton.
