My site runs Joomla 4.4.13, PHP 7.4.33, Helix Ultimate Framework and Helix Ultimate Template 2.1.3 and JCE Editor Pro 2.9.94. I need to allow front end editing for a certain group of users. The "Edit" button comes up for them, but when they click on the button, I get an error message:

Call to undefined method Joomla\CMS\Object\CMSObject::getButtonName()

When I go to the page listing, the file being edited is checked out. I do not have this problem with other editors such as TinyMCE. The editing page opens correctly and the user is able to edit the page.

Any suggestions?

Ryan

This error is most likely caused by one of the editor-xtd buttons you have on the site, usually part of another component.

Do you get the same error with the CodeMirror editor?

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean everybody isn't out to get you.

Just checked, and I don't get the error with either CodeMirror or TinyMCE. So JCE PRO is the only editor that gives me a problem, as far as I can tell.

What user permissions would you need? My supervisor wants to set up a Zoom or GoToMeeting session where we can log in and then give you the screen control as you might need.

This level of support is only available with an Agency subscription.

Please try this:

  1. Go to System -> Manage -> Plugins.
  2. Click on Filter Options and select editors-xtd from the Select Type list.
  3. Select all items, then click the Disable button.

Do you still get the error when you edit in the front-end?
