as soon as i install the latest JCE, my configuration page and article editing page breaks and i it only works again once i disable the plugin

JCE Pro 2.8.18 appears to work in Joomla 3.6.5 and PHP 5.6 - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/editor/pro/legacy/jce-pro-2818

The latest version of JCE Pro is incompatible with your system due to JCE Pro requirements - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/support/documentation/editor/requirements
We cannot and do not support all Joomla versions that have ever been released.
