Post 116182 suggests that MediaBox should work on J 5 but the J4 PreUpdate check says that it "cannot detect the extension's compatibility".
Will it require the Backward Compatibility plugin to be enabled on J5?

The latest version of JCE MediaBox - 2.1.9 - is Joomla 5 compatible and does not require the Backward Compatibility plugin.
If you have this version installed and are seeing the pre-update check message (I am not in my tests with Joomla 4.1 and MediaBox 2.1.9), then please go to System => Update => Update Sites and click the Rebuild button, then try the pre-update check again.

For some reason this site had stuck on Mediabox 2.1.5 - although JCE Pro had updated to 2.9.75. Every other site had Mediabox 2.1.9!
I followed the above instructions and have successfully updated the site to J 5.1.1
