Hello,
We have set up frontend editing for a website and we have also set up a specific profile per user group. Along with that we wanted to limit our users to see only a specific folder per user and that is why we have set up in the folder path this images/users/$username.
This works just fine in the backend and in the frontend image button from the editor but since we want the same rule to apply for the intro/fulltext image buttons as well I was wondering how we can achieve this in the frontend.
For the backend we disabled the system plugin and all image type buttons work like the jce.
Thank you in advance

The File Browser is used for the intro/fulltext image buttons, so you should set the File Directory Path in Editor Profiles -> Editor Parameters -> Filesystem to images/users/$username for this to apply to the Image Manager and the File Browser.
Alternatively, set the File Directory Path in Editor Profiles -> Plugin Parameters -> File Browser to images/users/$username.
Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean everybody isn't out to get you.
I still get the default Joomla media box when I click on the intro/fulltext image select.
I have the System plugin JCE disabled.
The System - JCE plugin must be enabled to get the JCE File Browser for the intro/fulltext image select.

I have the same issue with the default Joomla media box displaying when I click on the intro/fulltext image select. The System - JCE plugin is enabled as well. The only option in the Filesystem dropdown menu is Joomla! (Default). I need to set the root folder listed in the File Directory Path as the root folder for the profiles listed.
Update: according to this JCE FAQ, I am not showing the JCE File Browser in Image Fields despite having JCE 2.5.14...
My Default Editor * is Editor - JCE

Our site is on a secure server so I cannot do that. I will try to uninstall JCE and reinstall it. I have attached a screenshot of the Global Config JCE Admin General Options, JCE Admin Control Options Version, and verification that System - JCE is enabled. Is there anything else I should look for?
Please check steps 3 and 4 in this FAQ - https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/support/faq/item/jce-file-browser-not-loading-for-intro-image-full-text-image-etc-2

Comparing your screenshot of the Images and Links tab with the one below, which is from a stock Joomla 3.5 install, there is obviously something different happening with yours, maybe caused by a template or plugin?
Perhaps this has something to do with the issue at hand.

It may not be the template, it might be an extension you have installed that modifies JForm output, an issue I have seen before.
Without access to your site, I have no way of verifying this, but from the screenshots I can only conclude that the process that replaces the Joomla image fields is not being initiated at all. This occurs for the following reasons:
1. The content sent through to the plugin is not JForm content (unlikely)
2. The extension being used is not currently supported by the JCE System plugin (only com_content, com_categories, com_templates, com_tags, com_banners, com_contact, com_newsfeeds are currently supported)
3. The assigned editor is not JCE.
4. A JFormField of type "media" cannot be found to convert.

For 2, are you using the Joomla Article Manager? If yes, then it is one of the supported extensions.
For 4, this should not be an issue unless the some other extension is altering the fields.
As for the editor, is it being displayed in the Content tab?

Which Joomla Article Manager are you referring to? I am currently using the UAM and I am looking for a replacement extension for it. What extensions are you aware of that might alter the fields? The editor is working correctly on the content tab and it applies the JCE profiles correctly as well.

I don't understand. Are you attempting to write an article?
The JCE File Browser in the Images and Links tab is only supported in the Joomla Article Manager, ie: com_content.

I am using the Joomla Article Manager. When I create an article, the JCE does not function within the Images and Links tab, despite having the correct settings.
I can only conclude then that there is some other extension that is causing a conflict or change on the JForm output for the Article Manager editing fields, that is causing the issue here.
Without access to the site I can't confirm this, but you may wish to troubleshoot the issue further by uninstalling or disabling some extensions.

I went through and disable 101 Components, Modules, and Plugins that were not part of the Joomla core and the JCE does not open when pressing select to load an image on the images and links tab in the article editor. Here are the only enabled components, modules, and plugins:
Banners, Contacts, Newsfeeds, Search, Weblinks, Smart Search, Feed Display, Latest News, Logged-in Users, Administrator Menu, Popular Articles, User Status, Admin sub-Menu, Title, Multilingual Status, Joomla! Version Information, Ajax Interface, Content History, Post-installation Messages, Tags, Popular Tags, Similar Tags, Statistics, Smart Search - Tags, Search - Tags, isis, shape5_vertex, Content - Load Modules, Content - Pagebreak, Content - Page Navigation, Content - Vote, Button - Image, Button - Pagebreak, Button - Readmore, Search - Categories, Search - Contacts, Search - Content, Search - Weblinks, System - P3P Policy, Wrapper, System - Debug, System - SEF, User - Joomla!, Content - Joomla, System - Highlight, Content - Smart Search, Smart Search - Categories, Smart Search - Contacts, Smart Search - Content, Smart Search - Newsfeeds, Smart Search - Weblinks, Archived Articles, Latest News, Most Read Content, Banners, Feed Display, Selected Tags, Footer, Articles - Newsflash, Random Image, Articles - Related Articles, Search, Statistics, Latest Users, Weblinks, Who's Online, Articles - Newsflash (Advanced), Articles Category, Articles Categories, Smart Search, Editor - JCE, System - JCE, Quick Icon - JCE File Browser, JCE Editor
Could I send you an Akeeba file of the site with out the sql data for testing?

No. I it does not. I installed a fresh copy of 3.5.1 on my Joomla test site and the newest version of the JCE Editor and it doesn't even show on the front or back end despite having it set as my default editor on the Global Config. All the settings are correct that I am aware of. This is a similar issue I am having on our isolated site with the JCE File Browser not working on the Images and Links tab. I can send you login credentials for the fresh test site I installed.

The image below is of the JCE File Browser, opened from the Images and Links tab on your site
This is not available in the front-end, as the Images an Links tab is not available in front-end editing.

However, the same settings are applied to the user on the isolated site and the JCE File Manager doesn't load.
So it is obviously something unique to this site, probably an extension you have installed.

Could the PHP version possibly cause this behavior? The test site is running php v.5.6.17 and the isolated site is running php v.5.4.14?
No, I have tested locally on PHP 5.6.10 without any issue. The problem is specific to that site, and is probably caused by an extension you have installed.

Hi,
I am having a similar issue, and this thread has helped a lot but not quite there ...
I want the JCE file browser to appear when selecting the Intro Image and Full Image through the front end
It works perfectly through the back end for intro image and full image
It works for the full image in the front end
but try and select the intro image in the front end and I still get the Joomla Media manager
any suggestions as to what could be going on?
Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ryan,
I've just set Protostar as the template for the new article menu and the same thing happens.

Sorry I never followed up on my issue -priority changed and was pulled off the assignment. I disabled every plugin, component, and module and I had the same issue with the JCE File manager not loading the profile file path.
I am beginning to think that it is a corrupt version of Joomla 3.3.2 we are using despite having tried to upgrade to the newer version (which breaks some of our older components/modules) and reinstalling the 3.3.2 version with no changes in the issue.

@IEdwards - In your case, the issue is caused by having the File Browser option disabled in Editor Profiles -> Features & Layout.
As to why this still allowed the Full Image field to use the JCE File Browser, I'm not sure yet and I am investigating.

Hi Ryan,
I may still be doing something wrong but it isn't working as expected.
I get the file browser pop-up for both intro and main images but I can't switch it off now, I still see it even if I unpublish the file browser plugin
The only difference the setting in Editor Profiles -> Features & Layout makes is that with it on the file browser respects the path set in File System > Editor parameters. Turn it off and it starts at the default path.
Having said all that, in the ideal situation I would like to be able to use the Image Manager Extended plugin to upload these images as I'd like to preset it to resize to a particular size. Is this possible at all?
Many thanks,
Ian

You have 2 Profiles, both of them are set to load in the Front-end, assigned to the same user groups.
When the File Browser is disabled, then next profile with it enabled is loaded (as requested by the plugin that handles the Images and Links File Browser).
Remove Super User from the Front-end profile user groups list, and Author, Editor Publisher from the Default user groups list.

Ah thank you, of course.
