I am again having a 404 error when linking an article inside the JCE editor. Whilst the preview shows the link correctly, the URL in the web rendering includes some strange characters.

the URL that is generated is: [url=<a href="https://test.filosofenfontein.be/liturgie/alternatieve-liturgie-open-kerkmomenten/%EF%82%A7%20huis-,-tuin-en-wandelvieringen/huiskerktest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://test.filosofenfontein.be/liturgie/alternatieve-liturgie-open-kerkmomenten/%EF%82%A7%20huis-,-tuin-en-wandelvieringen/huiskerktest</a>]

The working URL is: https://test.filosofenfontein.be/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=187&catid=15

When pasting this URL in a browser window, the article renders correctly. I must be missing something, whilst this does not happen with many other articles.

Any suggestions how to fix?

Thank,

Rik

This URL is generated by the Joomla SEF plugin based on the routing methods of the extension, ie: com_content. The generated URL is made up of the alias values of the article and content category, or the menu items linking to the article.

Check the alias values of these items (specifically the menu items) to see if you can simplify the values to remove some special characters, as it appears these are being encoded, removed or replaced, causing the 404.

I have now changed all aliases to a single word without special characters. The problem persists with an individual article in the menu, but the links work with articles in a category blog in the menu definition.

the wrong link now is: https://test.filosofenfontein.be/liturgie/alternatieve/%20huiskerk/huiskerktest

Can't find the root cause.

thanks for the support!

This does look like an issue with the way the Joomla router is creating the SEF url, which may be cause by the menu item aliases. I would suggest having another look at those, or re-creating the menu item and the associated link in the article.
