JCE Pro 2.9.35 released

This update includes fixes for several bugs introduced in the previous release. In addition, we've added some new features, such as File Browser Options for Link and IFrames, as well as clarifications on Image Quality values for uploading and resizing. We've also made some changes to the Allow IFrames option, which affects how the IFrames and Media Manager plugins function. Read on for more details on these  improvements.

File Browser Options

You can now set specific File Browser options such as File Directory Path and Upload File Size for the Link and IFrames dialog, when the "Enable File Browser" parameter is set for each.

Image Quality Values

The effect of the "100%" value in the "Upload Quality" and "Resize Quality" parameters has been changed. This option will now represent a "Not Set" state, where the original compression value of the image will be retained when processing is done with PHP IMagick, or set to 75 when using PHP GD. Previously, a value of 100% would often result in the size of the final image being greater than the original, even if the final image had been resized to be smaller than the original. Users may have expected 100% to represent a quality value of 100% of the original, when in reality it resulted in the minimum level of compression applied to the full pixel size of the image. This change will now more accurately reflect the original assumption.

I asked ChatGPT to explain the concepts related to image size and JPEG Compression, and the answers are now included in 3 FAQ entries:

The Allow IFrames Option

The "Allow IFrames" option in the "Media Support" parameters sets how iframes are validated in the editor. A value of "No" would result in all iframes being removed, while the other options specify the criteria under which the source of the iframe would be validated.

Both the IFrames and Media Manager plugins make use of iframes. The Media Manager uses iframes to embed external media from sites such as Youtube and Vimeo.

When the IFrames button is added to the editor toolbar, the "Allow IFrames" option of "No" will be overridden, but the "Local Content Only" and "Local Content or Supported Media Only" options will still be applied.

When the Media Manager button is added:

  • If "Allow IFrames" is set to "No" or "Local Content Only", the option will be reset to "Local Content and Supported Media Only" with Youtube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion set as supported media if enabled in the Media Manager parameters.
  • If "Allow IFrames" is set to "Local Content and Supported Media Only", Youtube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion will be set as supported media if enabled in the Media Manager parameters.

Other fixes and improvements

  • Fixed an issue where the Paste As Plain Text dialog would not insert content into the editor.
  • Fixed missing Table options in the right-click Context Menu.
  • Fixed processing fo the readmore <hr> tag which could affect adjacent HTML.
  • Fixed the disabled state of the Captions button when an image was selected.
